lip blush pre & aftercare

After getting your lip blush, you must take extremely good care of the treatment area to achieve the optimal results.
That is why it is important to read and understand all the aftercare instructions and follow them carefully and diligently. Remember, the treatment is 50% of the work and the remaining 50% depends on the aftercare.

Failing to follow the aftercare instructions can result in the loss of pigment, irritation, and damage to the skin. It's crucial that all of the aftercare instructions are followed. If you are confused about the the healing and aftercare instructions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Pre-Care Instructions

Your lips must be hydrated and moisturized on the day of your cosmetic tattoo appointment.

  • We recommend starting a daily lip care regimen 5 days before your scheduled appointment to properly prepare your lips.

  • If you are sensitive or bruise easily, consider taking Arnica for one month before your appointment to help reduce potential swelling or bruising.

  • Lightly exfoliate your lips a few days before the service using a gentle sugar scrub.

  • If you have a specific lip color in mind, bring photos or your own lipstick as a guide when choosing a color.

Recommended Lip Care Regimen:

  • Apply Hustle Butter Tattoo or Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask throughout the day.

  • After showering, when your lips are soft and supple, gently scrub them, especially the middle of the bottom lip, then apply a layer of Laneige or Hustle Butter.

  • You can make a homemade scrub by mixing equal parts brown sugar, honey, and olive oil.

Important Notice:

  • If your lips are overly dry, cracked, peeling, blistered, burnt, or have scabs on the day of your appointment, MaryLittleGlam Inc. reserves the right to cancel your appointment.

  • The procedure cannot be performed if the skin is not properly prepared.

  • Get a prescription for Valtrex or start taking L-Lysine (if required) 10 days to 2 weeks before your appointment, and continue taking it for a few weeks afterward.

Things to avoid:

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and stimulants for 48 hours before the procedure (including caffeine in decaf coffee and tea).

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning one week prior to the procedure.

  • Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, or Advil/Ibuprofen 48 hours before the procedure.

  • Avoid Fish Oil, Primrose Oil, Prenatal Vitamins, Nutritional Shakes (like Shakeology), and "Hair, Skin, Nail" supplements for at least 48 hours before the procedure.

  • Wait a minimum of 6 months after lip fillers and 6 weeks after touch-up. Lips that have had injections within 6-12 months may have poor color retention. Wait 6 months after a lip implant and get written clearance from your surgeon.

Please Note: You may be more sensitive during your menstrual cycle.

aftercare instructions

These instructions are to be done 24 hours after your inital appointment

Day 3-4:

  • When scabs start to appear, gently dab the area until dry. Do not wipe or pull off the scabs prematurely; be gentle!

First Week:

  • Avoid Getting the Tattoo Wet:

    • During the healing process (5-7 days), try to keep the tattoo dry. Although it may be difficult to keep it completely dry, avoid swimming or submerging the area in water for long periods during the first week. This will help form thin scabs and improve color retention.

    • Keep out of direct sunlight for 7 days after getting your tattoo.

  • For Lips Only:

    • Use Aquaphor to protect the tattoo and soothe any discomfort like itching or dryness. Avoid using lip balms, lipstick, or other lip products during this time.

    • Apply Aquaphor every 30-60 minutes during the first week to prevent lips from drying out.

  • Avoid Touching the Tattooed Area:

    • Refrain from touching any tattooed area with your hands. Use Q-tips to apply all recommended products.

    • If you must touch the area with your hands, ensure you wash them thoroughly before and after.

Week 2 or 3:

  • Once the area is fully healed, you can return to your regular cleansing and makeup routine. Avoid scrubbing the tattooed area.

  • Use sunblock on the healed area to protect it from sun fading.

Dos and dont’s

Do:

• Follow the aftercare properly to allow your lips to heal as well as they should.

• Keep your lips as clean and dry, but moisturized, as you can for the first 5-10 days. Too much lymph fluid, water, sweat & oil will result in scabs instead of a film. Scabs will result in patchy brows.

• Keep your lips moisturized with After Inked (provided) or other lip balm for the whole healing process

• Use an ice pack (wrapped in something clean) or take ibuprofen if your lips feel swollen and there is bruising present.

• Ice may be applied every hour or so, if desired. Do not put ice directly on area.

• Use a straw whist drinking and avoid salty or spicy food if your lips feel tender for the first few days.

• Sleeping slightly elevated will help prevent swelling. It’s recommended to sleep on your back on a satin pillow case. If the pillowcase is not satin, you may also wrap your pillowcase at night and replace with a fresh wrap in the morning. This keeps pigment from sticking to the pillowcase at night.

Don’t:

• Touch, bite or scratch your lips – touching or picking could cause irritation, infection & loss of pigment.

• Exercise for at least 2-5 days after your treatment due to sweating. Gentle exercise is okay after the first few days.

• Put lip liner, lipstick, lip gloss, cleansers, lotions etc. on or close to your lips for 1-2 weeks to avoid irritation.

• Use saunas, steam rooms or swimming pools for 1 week due to sweating, risk of getting your lips wet & hygiene.

• Have facials or other face beauty treatments done for 1 week to avoid irritation & cross contamination.

• Have lip fillers or use sunbeds, chemical peels or any strong face treatment for 4 weeks as your skin will not be healed enough.

• Use anti-aging creams, chemical peels, acids or retinols on or close to your lips ever! These products strip the skin / change your skin and the chemicals in them will react and affect with the pigment / retention.

• No whitening toothpaste (during the healing process). Use a small amount of toothpaste. Take a straw with you to the bathroom to retrieve water to swish with.

• Do not bleach/whiten your teeth while your lips are healing (about 2 weeks). You may apply an ice pack (which must be protected with a wet barrier film of paper toweling, towel or cloth) for 10-minute intervals for the first 48 hours.
